Evil, with one eye

Ideology is the most devilish variation of the lie: Hannah Arendt, Approaches to the “German Problem”; in Essays in Understanding, 1994

NB: The American establishment, its allies and a vast section of its media use the word evil with Nelsonian vision. As someone who has observed evil with both eyes and no national, religious, or doctrinal prejudice for over half a century, I post below some material for readers alert to the danger of ideologically induced blindness. I readily admit I was doctrinally prejudiced at one stage of my life, and learned my philosophical lessons the hard way.

I offer these reflections especially for my students and the younger generation who will have to face the deadly ramifications of contemporary nihilism. You can and must make a difference, if the world we share is to remain livable. DS
